GLHS Chorale & Orchestra's recording of ‘GLORIA! available

The
Gahanna Lincoln High School Chorale (Jeremy Lahman, director) and the
GLHS Chamber Orchestra (Kevin Dengel, director) live performance of
Antonio Vivaldi’s masterwork GLORIA! is now available in an audio CD format.
The CD contains more than 30 minutes of the students' January 16, 2012, performance at the
Peace Lutheran Church and
an additional 22 minutes of the students' 2011 performance of Gabriel Faure's ‘Requiem’. The CD is available at the GLHS main office from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., 140 S. Hamilton Rd, for a tax deductible $15 (each). Proceeds will benefit the
Gahanna Lincoln Instrumental Music Boosters (GLIMB) to fund similar events and state-level competition fees.
The event marked the second time that these two ensembles united musical-forces in support of
Gahanna Residents In Need (GRIN), a local charitable organization. These two free community concerts have raised more than $6,000 from donations on behalf of GRIN, to assist residents within the Gahanna-Jefferson school district in times of
need.
About Antonio Vivaldi/GLORIA!
Antonio Vivaldi (1678 - 1741), a priest, music teacher and virtuoso violinist, composed many sacred works for the Ospedale (
a home for girls), where he spent most of his career, as well as hundreds of instrumental concertos to be played by the girls’ orchestra. This, his most famous choral piece, presents the traditional Gloria from the Latin Mass in twelve varied cantatas-like sections. Vivaldi ranks among the most popular and widely recorded Baroque composers.
