FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL INFORMATION FOR FAMILIES
August 22, 2020

Dear GJPS families,

We're very excited to get the 2020-21 school year started on Monday, August 24. Our staff has done an amazing job learning new tools, adjusting to new structures and being innovative regarding ways to connect with students and deliver rich learning experiences.

Just as you are adjusting to this unique start to the year, our staff is also working hard to adapt to the changes. We ask that you continue to extend patience and support as we navigate school in this new way as well. We know the year ahead will not come without bumps along the way, but we are ready for your students and we are ready to make this a great year!

Hopefully you all had a chance to make it to your building’s material distribution days this week. We wanted to provide a few more helpful reminders and resources to support your family for the start of distance learning.

Guidelines for Virtual Learning
While we are in distance learning, students will be interacting with their teachers and classmates in online environments such as Google Meet. Please discuss our district Virtual Learning Guidelines with your student(s).

Student/Parent Commitments
Be sure to read through and complete the Student/Parent Commitment Form.

Schedule Concerns
We have heard from some families about concerns related to the daily schedule and students’ ability to follow it strictly. We want you to know that we will work with you and your students and encourage anyone with extenuating circumstances to reach out to your teachers and building administrators so support plans can be created.

Attendance
Parents should continue to contact the school office when a student is unable to attend school for a full day or portion of the day due to sickness, appointments, etc. If a student is not able to connect to the online learning for the day due to internet, wifi, or technology issues, please contact your teacher when you regain access.

Distance Learning Family Resource Page
We have created a Distance Learning Family Resource Page on our GJPS website to house information about frequently used platforms and digital resources across the district. The information on this page will help families and students understand each platform and troubleshoot obstacles as they arise.

Technology Support
Families can receive support with account access, internet access, connectivity and/or device issues using this GJPSTech Support Site.

Grab & Go Meals
The Child Nutrition Department will be offering a week’s worth of Grab & Go Meals to all students during our distance learning schedule beginning Monday, August 24, 2020. Meals must be ordered in advance. Please complete the required School Meal Order Form to secure your student’s meals. More information with pickup times and locations can be found on our GJPS website.

If you have additional questions, please reach out to your building principal.

Sincerely,

Steve Barrett
Superintendent
