Guidance Counselor
The school guidance counselor at Goshen Lane Elementary is Mrs. Betsy Hussey. She holds a master’s degree in guidance and counseling with special preparation in principles of child growth and development, individual and group counseling, communication skills, testing and test interpretation, and elements of career development.
Mrs. Hussey conducts classroom guidance lessons in addition to holding small group and individual counseling sessions as needed. The classroom guidance activities are based on the Skills for Life Course of Study adopted by the Gahanna-Jefferson Board of Education. Classroom activities include developing student skills in decision-making, social interactions, conflict resolution and communication.
Mrs. Hussey assists teachers and other school personnel as they provide an environment that is conducive to learning. She also works with parents to promote home/school relationships, and to help understand their child’s progress in school.
Mrs. Hussey serves Goshen Lane Elementary two and one half days per week on C p.m., D and E days.
Magellan
Magellan is a project developed by the Franklin County Education Council. Wrap-around services available weekly to Goshen Lane students, their parents, and staff include those of a licensed professional counselor, Mrs. Dawn Jenkins, and social worker, Ms. Stephanie Atwater. Magellan services take place in collaboration with the school guidance counselor. These services include:
- Professional resources for staff
- Participation in the Intervention Assistance Team
- Parent workshops and parenting information
- Student intervention
