From the Guidance Counselor
Counselor: Ms. Andrea Johnson
Phone: (614) 479-1328
My name is Andrea Johnson, and I am the school counselor at Goshen Lane and Jefferson Elementary schools. It is my privilege to work with your children at Jefferson Elementary. I will be at Goshen Lane Elementary two and one half days per week on A, B and C days and Jefferson Elementary on C, D and E days. I have a master’s degree in school and clinical counseling. Prior to obtaining my degree in school counseling, I worked as a mental health specialist for Gahanna-Jefferson Public Schools.
Through classroom guidance, group counseling, individual counseling and parent/teacher collaboration, I will be working to address all students’ academic, personal/social, and career development needs. Throughout the year, I will be conducting classroom guidance lessons at all grade levels. Classroom guidance is used as a preventative measure to provide each student with the skills needed to address their academic, career and social needs. Some of the topics that will be discussed are strategies for emotion management, character education, handling peer pressure and bullying situations and skills for learning.
A variety of small groups will be offered throughout the year, which will be based on student needs. Examples of groups include friendship/social skills, study skills and conflict resolution. Throughout the year, I will be sending home letters with information about classroom guidance and group counseling topics as well as several parenting tips and strategies to help your child be successful academically and socially.
One of the most important aspects of my job is working with parents. Your participation in your child’s educational process is vital to your child’s success. If you are looking for help in a certain area or have any questions, please don’t hesitate to call or email. Home/school communication is important, and I am glad to help in any way that I can. I value your input and look forward to creating a partnership in helping your child reach his/her optimal success.
