We are proud to share that Mrs. Selene Kelley, PE teacher, has been awarded the SHAPE (Society of Health and Physical Education) 2019 District Teacher of the Year! nnThis is quite an honor - to be recognized by her peers as an outstanding professional in her field. nnMrs. Kelley will travel to Florida for the national SHAPE convention where she will be eligible for the National Teacher of the Year award.

Our Character Counts Club led a school-wide drive for GRIN. In total, Gahanna South students and staff donated over $1,200 and collected 1,042 items for GRIN! nnCharacter Counts Club is led by Mrs. Owens and Mrs. Leffler. This summer our outgoing 8th grader Samme Molino placed 4th in the country at the prestigious National History Competition at The University of Maryland. We are so proud of her. She worked all year, making multiple revisions on her paper titled, u201cThe Assumption Bill: A Compromise at the Dinner Tableu201d. Samme made her way through the regional and state competition to earn her way to compete at the national competition in June. She was advised by Social Studies teacher, Mr. Cale Garber.

Congratulations to Mr. Garber for being nominated by the Ohio History Connection for the Harris History Teacher Award. Mr. Garber has been nominated for his use of creative teaching methods that interest students in history and help them make exciting discoveries about the past. Mr. Garber will travel to the National History Day conference in June as the Ohio teacher representative. We are very proud and honored to celebrate Mr. Garber!

Our Pennies for Patients fundraiser was a record-breaking success. Our GMSS students raised $4,838.67 this year, smashing our previous record by over $1,000! A huge shout-out to our parents, teachers, and students for embracing this fundraiser. A special thank you to Mrs. Leffler for organizing and leading the charge!!
