Counselor: Mrs. Monica Baker
Phone: (614) 478-5585
Hi! My name is Monica Baker. I am the elementary guidance counselor at Royal Manor and High Point Elementary Schools. I have a Master's degree in Guidance and School Counseling. Prior to counseling, I taught sixth grade at Middle School West for 13 years.
Our elementary guidance program is a preventative program that focuses on life skills that help the students to be better problem solvers, learners, and all around thinkers. I conduct classroom guidance lessons in all classes, in addition to holding small group and individual counseling sessions as needed. The classroom guidance activities are based on the Skills for Life Course of Study adopted by the Gahanna-Jefferson Board of Education. Classroom activities include developing student skills in decision-making, goal setting, social interactions, character education, conflict resolution, career connections and communication.
An important component of my job is working with parents to build home/school relationships. As we all know, being a parent is the toughest, but most important job we will ever have. I have many resources that I would be glad to share with you. I am also available to conference with parents to help in anyway that I can.
Another aspect of my job is working collaboratively with the teachers and other school personnel to create an environment that is conducive to learning for all students. As a part of this partnership, I am a member of the invention team. The purpose of this team is to provide suggestions and devise action plans to help students to have the best learning experience possible.
I am at Royal Manor Elementary two and one half days per week on A, C and E days, and High Point Elementary on A, B and D days. Please feel free to contact the school office if I can assist you in anyway. I look forward to working with you and your child.
