Class Ring Reunited with Owner

The package is addressed to Gahanna Lincoln Athletics at 140 S. Hamilton Road, Gahanna, Ohio, with the recipient name Howard Veihdeffer.

Through the detective work of the GLHS Athletics Department, a class ring has been reunited with its original owner after being apart for nearly 35 years.

GLHS Athletic Director Matthew Welsh recently learned of a class ring from the Class of 1988 and set out to find its rightful owner. After looking through old yearbooks without many leads, pictures of the ring and the limited details were shared on social media. The post was shared to a “Lost Class Ring” page, and soon, a person was identified as the potential original owner: Howard Veihdeffer.

Welsh made contact with Veihdeffer and learned that the ring did belong to him. Veihdeffer was a student at GLHS before leaving during his junior year in 1987, thinking the ring had been lost forever. Welsh and his team boxed up the ring and mailed it to Veihdeffer in Pennsylvania so that he could be reunited with something he once thought was lost.

“I remember how excited I was to get my class ring, and I recall how upset I was when I lost my class ring. Luckily, I found it hours later,” Welsh said. “To be able to return Mr. Veihdeffer’s ring, 35 years later, was special. He was very thankful for the effort made by so many people, and happy to have the ring back.”
