GJPS Launches New Construction Projects

Rolled and unrolled architectural blueprints showing detailed building floor plans with measurements and technical drawings.

Gahanna-Jefferson Public Schools is excited to announce the start of three construction projects around the District. Middle School West, Middle School South and the Preschool will all be getting additions and/or renovations at no new cost to our community.

Those projects include (pending final cost estimation):

Middle School West Addition
Middle School West will see an $8.9 million addition and renovation, focused on both academics and athletics. The project includes a new competition gymnasium, two new locker rooms, a new secured entry, athletic storage, a full roof replacement and upgraded mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems. Construction is expected to begin in May 2026 and finish by August 2027.

Middle School South Addition
To better serve growing enrollment, Middle School South will receive a $4.7 million addition. The project features four to six new classrooms, an expanded student dining area, additional storage, a new teacher lounge and updated building systems. Construction is slated to begin in May 2026 and reach completion by August 2027.

Preschool Renovation
The District’s preschool will undergo a $1.3 million renovation, designed to create more modern and supportive learning environments for our youngest learners. Plans include five new classrooms, a large interior motor space, a dedicated sensory room, a new conference room and additional playground security. Work is scheduled to begin in February 2026, with substantial completion by August 2026.

These projects represent some plans that were envisioned during the master facilities planning work of 2020, however were deferred to ensure we could complete the new Gahanna Lincoln High School. The preschool project was added to consolidate all our preschool classrooms to one location.

The funding from these projects comes from interest earnings from the levied bonds approved by our community in 2020 and COPS/Permanent Improvement funds. These dollars can only be used for construction projects, and no operating funds will be spent on these projects. These projects will not add any additional cost to local taxpayers.
