Four Gahanna Lincoln High School (GLHS) students recently graduated from the Automotive Maintenance Pre-Apprentice Program (AMPP), gaining valuable hands-on experience and industry training that will help drive them toward future careers in the automotive field.

Congratulations to Marshawn Lee-Gains, Wally Jones, Tytus Ray and Gage Garver. Throughout the entire school year, these students attended the program each weekday from 12:30-3 p.m., working alongside experienced automotive professionals while building technical skills and industry knowledge.

The Automotive Maintenance Pre-Apprentice Program, led by master technicians with decades of experience, combines classroom instruction with real-world, hands-on training. Through this program sponsored by Performance Columbus, our students learned a wide range of automotive maintenance and repair skills to prepare them for success after graduation.

During the program, students received training in:

  • Brake service and repair
  • Engine repair
  • Vehicle maintenance and inspection
  • Steering, suspension and wheel alignment
  • Tire service
  • Heating and air conditioning repair
  • Vehicle diagnostics
  • Electrical work
  • Safety protocols
  • Customer communication
  • Critical thinking skills

In addition to technical training, the program also focused on professionalism, workplace culture and teamwork.

By completing the program, students earned a 12-point industry credential, an important achievement that demonstrates career readiness and specialized training in the automotive industry.

The program also provides students with opportunities to pursue continued education and future employment pathways within the automotive field.

Programs like AMPP help connect classroom learning with real-world career experiences, giving GLHS students opportunities to build skills, explore career interests and prepare for life after graduation.
